Carson Jones has withdrawn from Saturday's fight against Lee Purdy in London due to illness, with Mexican veteran Cosme Rivera stepping in on short notice to take the fight. Purdy-Rivera will air on Sky Sports on the Barker-Rotolo undercard from Wembley Arena.
Purdy (19-3-1, 12 KO) is on a three-fight win streak, all wins by stoppage, since a majority decision loss to Colin Lynes in November 2011. This is the second time he was scheduled to fight Jones (34-9-3, 24 KO); in December, it was Purdy who was forced to pull out of the bout.
Rivera (35-15-3, 24 KO) is a battling veteran who, at 36, has recently been fighting at 140 pounds, but is a welterweight by trade. He's coming off of a loss in December to Yordenis Ugas in Florida. Rivera isn't a great opponent for Purdy right now, but on four days' notice, they could have done much worse than flying in a tough gatekeeper to take the bout.
