Ricky Burns approached by Golden Boy following split with Warren

WBO lightweight titlist Ricky Burns is mulling offers from promoters including Golden Boy, and hopes to make an announcement within the week.

Ricky Burns is a hot property following his split with promoter Frank Warren, and is hearing offers from several promoters, including Golden Boy Promotions, who have plans in motion to open up a UK branch this year.

Burns (35-2, 10 KO) holds the WBO lightweight title and would be a very good addition to the GBP team with their venture into the United Kingdom. They already have 2012 Olympian star Anthony Ogogo on their roster, and of course Amir Khan is a Golden Boy fighter.

There are other offers, including Johnny Eames' Showtime Sports Events, but it would be fair to guess that Burns plans to align himself with a major promoter, and Golden Boy fits that bill. GBP would also be able to deliver a fight with Adrien Broner, if that's what Burns wants to do.

Alex Morrison, Burns' manager, says that they're hoping to make an announcement within the week, so we won't have to wait too long to find out where the Scottish star is headed.
