Tonight at 9:30 pm, HBO is at the Barclays Center for a doubleheader, featuring 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins gunning for the IBF light heavyweight title against Tavoris Cloud in the main event, and Keith Thurman battling Jan Zaveck in the welterweight co-feature.
Hopkins (52-6-2, 32 KO) is looking to break his own record as the oldest man to win a world title in boxing history, and many think he'll pull it off once again tonight. Three of five BLH staffers did pick Cloud, but nobody seemed particularly certain about that prediction. Overall, it seems like feelings are split on who takes the main event tonight.
Thurman (19-0, 18 KO) is looking to get into the world title hunt at 147 pounds, and could take another step, in theory, if he can beat Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO), as the fight is a WBO eliminator. The issue there is that title is held by Timothy Bradley, a Top Rank fighter who is highly unlikely to fight against a Golden Boy or Haymon fighter, and Thurman is both. And even before that, Zaveck is no pushover.
We'll be here with live updates and immediate post-fight results for both bouts, so join us tonight!
