33,000 tickets sold, and now Golden Boy Promotions has made an extra 3,000 available for the April 20 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Austin Trout at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Any worries (there weren't many) about this fight selling enough tickets for the stadium to look good have vanished. This is one of the biggest fights we'll see this year, and will almost surely go down as the most-attended fight on U.S. soil in 2013.
From a GBP press release:
"We are thrilled that the fans have responded in such an incredible fashion to this amazing match-up," said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya. "There is no doubt the Alamodome is going to be electric on April 20. I for one can't wait to be there and it's clear that tens of thousands of fans can't wait either."
Newly released seating priced at $150 and $100, plus applicable taxes, fees and services charges, with a ticket limit of eight per person, will only be available for purchase at the Alamodome box office and go on sale Monday, April 15 at noon CT.
This is a legitimate big-time fight, a big enough fight, in fact, that it probably could have been on pay-per-view and done fairly well. Canelo is a star, and Austin Trout's credibility is good enough that this thing has just about everyone excited. We're going to learn something about both of these fighters next weekend, and I have no qualms saying that I'm looking forward to this fight more than any other currently on the schedule.
