The Alamodome and 38,000 fans will see Canelo Alvarez face Austin Trout in the main event tonight, with TV coverage in the U.S. starting at 8 pm EDT on Showtime Extreme, and then continuing at 10 pm EDT on Showtime. BoxNation has the show in the U.K.
Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO) and Trout (26-0, 14 KO) are looking to unify the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles, with the winner of tonight's fight being a clear choice as the top 154-pound fighter in the world today, with Floyd Mayweather moving back to welterweight. It's a high-stakes fight, with the 22-year-old cash cow Canelo taking a genuine risk against crafty, talented Trout, a 27-year-old southpaw and by far his best opponent to date. Canelo, though, is probably Trout's best opponent, too.
On the Showtime undercard, Omar Figueroa (20-0-1, 16 KO) and Abner Cotto (16-0, 7 KO) will meet in a 12-round lightweight bout. On the Showtime Extreme prelims, Jermall Charlo, Julian Williams, and Terrell Gausha will be in action.
