Sergio Martinez suffers broken hand in win over Murray, unlikely to fight again in 2013

Promoter Lou DiBella says that Sergio Martinez suffered a broken hand in tonight's win over Martin Murray, and is unlikely to fight again this year. Is the end near for the 38-year-old champ?

Sergio Martinez scuffled through tonight, beating Martin Murray by narrow decision in Argentina, but indications that the middleweight champ's body is starting to betray him at age 38 were all over the fight, and promoter Lou DiBella says he's suffered a broken hand.

Steve Kim tweeted this from DiBella:

Text from Lou DiBella on Sergio Martinez: "Broken hand. 90% he wont fight again this year."

Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO) has had a lot of minor injuries over his career, and with his age clearly starting to become a factor and those little setbacks becoming a bigger deal and piling up, one has to wonder how much longer the champ will fight on. I doubt we've seen the last of him, but if he's already looking at taking the next seven months off, the last of him may not be far off.

Martinez entered tonight's fight off of knee surgery for an injury he suffered last year against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
