The May 18 Showtime double-header is official, with Lamont Peterson to face Lucas Matthysse, and Devon Alexander to take on Kell Brook at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Peterson (31-1-1, 16 KO) will face Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO) in a dynamite matchup and the show's main event. It's a bit hard to pick a winner, as Matthysse has become a die-hard fan's favorite, but he's yet to score a win over someone as good as Peterson, though he arguably deserved victories in both of his losses, to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander.
Peterson's IBF junior welterweight title will not be on the line, as the fight will be fought with a 141-pound catchweight for whatever reason. Matthysse's interim WBC belt is also not at stake, of course.
Alexander (24-1, 13 KO) will make his first defense of the IBF welterweight title he won in October from Randall Bailey, facing mandatory challenger Brook (29-0, 19 KO). This fight was originally scheduled for January, but Brook pulled out with an injury, and then the new February date was pushed back when Alexander got hurt in camp.
Also on the card will be Shawn Porter (20-0-1, 14 KO) facing Phil Lo Greco (25-0, 14 KO) in a welterweight bout.
