Today at about Noon EDT, we will have live coverage of a double world title show from Moscow, featuring Denis Lebedev and Alexander Povetkin in action. BoxNation is televising in the UK, while Rossiya-2 has the fights in Russia.
Cruiserweight Lebedev (25-1, 19 KO) will take on Guillermo Jones (38-3-2, 30 KO), a WBA and Don King favorite who fights once in a blue moon or so. His last fight came in November 2011, when he made a pitiful title defense against Michael Marrone. Jones, 41, won the WBA cruiserweight belt in 2008, but defended it just twice, somehow avoiding being stripped for a very, very long time.
Lebedev, 33, was last seen in December, obliterating unfit challenger Santander Silgado in four. He's best known recently for 2011 wins over Roy Jones Jr and James Toney.
Povetkin (25-0, 17 KO) will hopefully be fighting one last time before taking on Wladimir Klitschko this fall, but we'll see. The 33-year-old Povetkin will be facing unbeaten Andrzej Wawrzyk (27-0, 13 KO) of Poland. The 6'5", 32-year-old Wawrzyk is not a serious contender anywhere but sanctioning body rankings, but it's hardly any worse than some of the recent Klitschko brothers opponents we've seen trotted out, so whatever.
