Peterson vs Matthysse: Main eventers on weight, Lee Purdy overweight

Lamont Peterson and Lucas Matthysse hit the mark this afternoon, but Lee Purdy was overweight and has lost his chance to win the IBF welterweight belt.

Lamont Peterson and Lucas Matthysse made weight for tomorrow night's highly-anticipated Showtime main event, and Devon Alexander held up his end for the main undercard bout, but Lee Purdy missed weight for the event, killing his first world title shot.

Purdy weighed in at 147.8 pounds after he returned from missing weight the first time, and though his fight with IBF welterweight titlist Alexander (146.7) will still go on tomorrow night, Purdy cannot win the title, and Alexander cannot lose it.

Peterson hit 141 for the main event, which was the agreed-upon contract weight for the bout. Matthysse came in at 140. The winner of that fight is expected to face Danny Garcia, possibly on September 7.

Also on the undercard: Shawn Porter and Phil Lo Greco both came in at 150 pounds. They will be the main bout on Showtime Extreme, which kicks off at 7:00 pm EDT tomorrow night. Anthony Ogogo is making a quick return for his second pro bout, and came in at 159 pounds, same as opponent Edgar Perez. Haroon Khan is also quickly back in action, weighing in at 116.5. Opponent Vicente Medellin weighed 115.

Also in action on the bill will be Anthony Peterson, Rau'Shee Warren, Jamel Herring, Robert Easter Jr, and Thomas Williams Jr.
