Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Brian Vera delayed until August 3

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's return to the ring against Brian Vera has again been pushed back, this time until August 3, still likely to be held in Mexico City.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is still planning to return against Brian Vera, most likely in Mexico City, but the fight date has again been pushed back, this time to August 3, according to a report at BoxingScene.com. HBO will televise the fight, whenever it happens.

Chavez (46-1-1, 32 KO) has been out of action since last September, when he suffered his first career defeat against Sergio Martinez in Las Vegas. He then failed his post-fight drug test, as he came up positive for marijuana, which led to an eventual, nine-month suspension, along with a massive $900,000 fine.

There had been talk of Chavez ignoring the suspension and fighting again in Mexico before the nine months were officially up in June, with backing from the WBC. But the fighter and his team wisely chose not to do that, as it could have easily hurt his chances of being relicensed in Nevada eventually, and while Chavez will draw big crowds in Mexico, Texas, California, or anywhere else he wants to fight, really, the big money remains in Vegas.

Chavez vs Vera will take place at a catchweight of 165 pounds, but Julio intends to campaign again as a middleweight in the near future.
