Hekkie Budler celebrates a questionable victory over Nkosinathi Joyi

Welcome to another results column. The previous week's edition can be found here. There were some very interesting fights this week.

Tadashi Yuba UD8 Kengo Nagashima

2013-06-13 Orion Function Centre, Campsie, New South Wales, Australia

Dylan Emery TKO2 Kurt Finlayson

Mohammed Elomar SD6 Takamori Akita

2013-06-13 The Trusts Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand

Sky Arena

Joseph Parker TKO2 Frans Botha

Hopefully this means Botha will finally retire. But I don't want to belittle Parker's performance. He appears to be a promising heavyweight prospect. His record now stands at 6-0.

Arlene Blencowe UD10 Daniella Smith (100-91, 100-91, 100-91)

Vacant WIBA / WBF female light welterweight titles

Matthew Wood UD3 Colin Lane

This was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Two of the shortest light heavyweights you're likely to ever see in the ring, both around 4.5 feet tall, fought their assess off for the Dwarf Championship of the World. Round 1 is a leading candidate for ROTY. It will definitely make my 2013 compilation video.

Bryce Casey UD3 Nickson Clark

For a "celebrity boxing" match I was pleasantly surprised. These 2 guys really tried to kick each other's asses. It wasn't fixed. Then again, they aren't really celebrities...

Jordan Tuigamala UD4 Jody Allen

Marcel Botha UD4 Jeremy Sebastian

Marcel, the son of Frans, made a successful pro debut.

2013-06-14 Centro de Educación Física N° 6, Las Flores, Buenos Aires, Argentina

TV Publica

Maria Elena Maderna MD10 Enis Pacheco (94-94, 98-90, 97-91)

2013-06-14 Salle Marcel Cerdan, Poissy, Yvelines, France

France lightweight title

RaiSport / Cicalone productions

Massimiliano Buccheri UD10 Roberto Cocco (98-91, 99-92, 97-92)

Italy super middleweight title

Orial Kolaj KO2 Paata Aduashvili

Mirco Ricci PTS6 Jindrich Velecky

2013-06-14 Water Front Congress SAS Radisson, Stockholm, Sweden

4 Sport

Diana Prazak TKO8 Frida Wallberg

This upset for the WBC female super featherweight title will be covered in depth at a later date, among all the other major upsets in female boxing for the year 2013 (there have been a lot). For right now I'll just give you my scorecard: 67-66 Wallberg, who took rounds 1, 2, 3, and 4 before she was almost fatally stopped in round 8. She's no longer in critical condition but she may never box again. Open scoring revealed all 3 judges had the fight 39-37 after 4 rounds. From the 4th onward I felt Prazak's pressure and body punches were slowly wearing Wallberg down.

2013-06-14 Provincial Stadium, Chaiyaphum, Thailand

Thai TV 3

Petchbarngborn Kokietgym UD12 Ardin Diale (115-113, 117-111, 115-113)

This battle for the vacant WBO Oriental super flyweight title could have gone either way. Diale was the more polished boxer but his lack of activity and languishing on the ropes cost him.

2013-06-14 South Mountain Arena, South Orange, New Jersey, USA

Juan Carlos Payano TKO7 Jundy Maraon

Two unbeaten bantamweights entered. One left with his streak intact.

Yenifel Vicente TKO4 Jorge Diaz

Vacant WBC FECARBOX super bantamweight title

Anthony Gangemi MD4 Anthony Prescott (38-38, 40-36, 39-37)

Antoine Douglas RTD3 Ibahiem King

Denis Boytsov TKO3 Oleksandr Nesterenko

Klara Svensson TKO5 Irene Gambrah

Denis Krieger KO1 Burak Cakir

2013-06-15 Campo Sportivo Comunale, Bertinoro, Emilia Romagna, Italy

Mirko Larghetti TKO8 Vincenzo Rossitto

Unbeaten prospect Larghetti may have entered contender status with a victory over veteran Vincenzo Rossitto, but not before going life and death in yet another 2013 wild cruiserweight war. He advanced to 19-0 and picked up the vacant EBU-EU (European Union) cruiserweight title.

Simona Galassi UD10 Sanae Jah (98-92?, 98-92?, 98-92?)

Vacant EBU female flyweight title

Antonio Moscatiello TKO4 Andrea Sansoni

Sasun Karapetyan UD4 Siarhei Krapshyla

2013-06-15 Emperor's Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa / BeIn Sport

Hekkie Budler SD12 Nkosinathi Joyi (112-116, 116-113, 115-113)

This was a controversial fight for the IBO strawweight title. Team Joyi has filed a protest to get a rematch. Due to satellite interference I was only able to fully see 9 of the 12 rounds, but I gave Joyi 7 of them (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11). And round 10 should have been 10-8 Joyi but the referee missed a knockdown. I only gave Budler rounds 2 and 9. Even if he swept the 3 I didn't see, which is unlikely, he'd still lose on my card. I commend judge Artur Ellensohn for scoring the fight 8-4 for Joyi. At least he can appreciate body punching.

Ryno Liebenberg UD12 Johnny Muller (117-109, 115-111, 115-111)

Vacant IBO Inter-Continental light heavyweight title

Edrin Dapudong TKO1 Gideon Buthelezi

IBO super flyweight title

Paul Kamanga TKO6 Takalani Dangala

Thabang Ramagole UD6 Lerato Kgole

If a bout is not mentioned which took place on one of the above cards it’s most likely because I haven’t got around to watching it yet. In the event that I do watch such a bout at a later time it’s still unlikely I will update this results column. My columns will be posted once a week, devoted to cards that most casual American boxing fans haven’t seen or heard of. For available footage of the previously reported bouts follow @sweetboxing on twitter. You may also email the author of this piece at
