Marcos Maidana and Josesito Lopez lived up to the hype tonight, delivering a fantastic brawl in the main event on Showtime, with Maidana stopping Lopez in the sixth round.

Marcos Maidana stopped Josesito Lopez tonight in the sixth round at a rocking Home Depot Center in Carson, California, winning a back-and-forth war that lived up to the major diehard fan hype.

Maidana (34-3, 31 KO) overcame some adversity, as he was clearly hurt and beaten up in the fourth round, a frame so one-sided that it could easily have been scored 10-8 for Lopez, even without an official knockdown. But the Argentinean slugger roared back and drilled Lopez (30-6, 18 KO) in the sixth round with an overhand right, which put Lopez on a knee.

After getting up, Josesito fell victim to a series of vicious right hands, bouncing off the ropes and somehow staying on his feet. Lopez was unable to grab on to Maidana, forcing referee Lou Moret to eventually step in after a series of unanswered bombs.

It was a terrific battle that raised the status of both men, and even in defeat, Lopez really lost nothing here. It was outstanding action, and Lopez simply lost the brawl. I highly doubt that anyone comes away from this thinking less of Lopez, who felt the stoppage was premature.

Judges had the fight 48-47 for Lopez twice, and 48-47 for Maidana. BLH had it 47-47, giving Lopez a 10-8 round in the fourth.

Would you watch an immediate rematch? Who wouldn't? Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but obviously this could sell at the HDC again, which reportedly set an attendance record this evening.

Do you want to see a rematch next, or if not, what would you like to see from these two fighters?
