Abner Mares and Yuriorkis Gamboa comment on possible fight

WBC featherweight titlist Abner Mares says he'd be willing to meet Yuriorkis Gamboa at 130 pounds if the fight is in Cancun. Will this happen, or is it just talk?

Al Bello

Abner Mares and Yuriorkis Gamboa are two weight classes apart and have promoters that may not be able to work out a deal, but the fighters have discussed in the media a potential fight at the in-between weight of 130 pounds, with Mares saying he's up for it if the fight takes place in Cancun, Mexico.

Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO) is promoted by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, who has not worked yet with Golden Boy Promotions, Mares' promoter. Whether or not there's any sort of restriction or whatever for Jackson to work with Golden Boy, due to his falling out with Golden Boy associate Floyd Mayweather, is a potential roadblock here. Jackson has promoted Gamboa fights twice thus far, on the undercards of Top Rank and GYM/Gary Shaw events.

Mares (26-0-1, 14 KO) will face Jhonny Gonzalez on August 24 on Showtime in California, while Gamboa is currently looking for his next fight, after beating Darleys Perez on June 8, which aired on HBO.

If the two were to meet at 130 pounds, who would you pick to win? Who R U Picking?
