Mayweather vs Canelo: Austin Trout vs Erislandy Lara rumored for undercard

In what is shaping up to possibly be a fantastic pay-per-view card, the Mayweather-Canelo and Garcia-Matthysse event may also see Austin Trout face Erislandy Lara in a pivotal 154-pound fight.

US PRESSWIRE

We've already learned today that a great fight between Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse is official for the Mayweather-Canelo pay-per-view undercard, and the hits may just keep on coming. If the rumors are true, Austin Trout will face Erislandy Lara in a battle of 154-pound contenders.

While Trout-Lara hardly promises scintillating action on paper, as it's a fight between a pair of crafty southpaws, it is a significant fight for the division. Trout (26-1, 14 KO) lost his WBA junior middleweight title to Canelo Alvarez on April 20, but prior to that scored a big win in December over Miguel Cotto. Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO) is coming off of a TKO win over Alfredo Angulo in what was an exciting fight that saw Lara come off the canvas twice to stop the rugged Mexican brawler. That win gave Lara the totally pointless interim WBA title.

It's a 50-50 fight on paper, and a must-win fight for both guys if they hope to land a title shot with their next bout, which would be the goal.

If this fight does happen -- and it appears that it will -- who do you like to win?
