Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer says that Adrien Broner will return to the boxing ring in November with his second Showtime main event, and could possibly defend his WBA welterweight title against Marcos Maidana, in a fight that many fans would love to see, and one that Maidana definitely wants.
Broner (27-0, 22 KO) is coming off of a closer than anticipated win over Paulie Malignaggi on June 22 in his debut at 147 pounds. That win netted him the WBA belt, but opened up a lot more questions about how high Broner can really go, or at least how quickly he can do it well.
Unlike Malignaggi, Maidana (34-3, 31 KO) can definitely punch. Also unlike Malignaggi, Maidana is a bit crude in his approach, and would probably be doubly so against Broner, a slick, fast boxer he knows very well he can't out-quick or beat in a boxing match.
It's an interesting matchup and if you take his Twitter seriously at all (which is very difficult to do, admittedly), Broner seems to be ready to fight Maidana, too. And if he's serious about letting the fans choose his next opponent, it's Maidana who has gotten the most public play in anticipation of Broner's next fight.
