Dereck Chisora to return on September 21, Warren promises 'big name' opponent

Scott Heavey

Fresh off of a controversial but solid win over Malik Scott yesterday at Wembley Arena, Dereck Chisora is slated to return to the ring on September 21, when Frank Warren brings boxing to Copper Box Arena, in a card to be headlined by Billy Joe Saunders vs John Ryder for the British middleweight title.

Chisora (17-4, 11 KO) knocked out Scott in the sixth round yesterday, but there has been a lot of debate about Scott beating the count (he did) and whether or not the referee basically ended his count at nine and a half. Still, Chisora will go onward and hopefully upward, and Warren says that he'll secure a "big name" opponent for Chisora, though in WarrenWorld, that could mean Hasim Rahman or something.

One name being kicked around a lot by fans is David Price, who has lost two straight by TKO to Tony Thompson this year. Price is at a point where he either needs a big shot in the arm, which a win over Chisora would be, or he needs to scale back and take an easy fight or five, which Chisora would not be.

And if not Price, well, how about Tony Thompson himself? "The Tiger" seems to enjoy his trips to the United Kingdom, and it would probably be a decent money fight for him.
