Boxing results, July 19 - 20: Carlos Buitrago, John Molina, and Hank Lundy make statements; Chisora-Scott isn't the only bout to leave questions

Fights from this past Friday and Saturday are covered, whether they are high profile or obscure.

Didn't watch as much boxing as I normally do this week. It was for the best. I interviewed former lightweight world champion Ray Mancini and wrote a feature on the late, great Emile Griffith.

Last week's results column can be found here. This week's column contains a few highlight reel knockouts, a referee's count that makes the Chisora-Scott debacle look tame, a fight of the year candidate, and a round of the year candidate. No quit counter this week. I was about to add 1 fight but I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt...

TyC Sports

Yesica Yolanda Bopp UD10 Anastasia Toktaulova (100-90, 100-90, 100-90)

WBA & WBO female light flyweight titles

Leandro David Esperante KO3 Claudio Sebastian Aguirre

I'm not quite sure how this was anything but a technical knockout. Aguirre never went down. He basically just injured his right foot. The referee immediately picked up on it and just started counting. Logic would suggest he was giving Aguirre a standing 8 count. But instead of asking him whether he was fit to continue after 8, he just kept counting straight to 10. Aguirre was done either way, but this is the weakest "non-technical" knockout I've ever seen. What the hell was Aguirre supposed to do to get the referee to stop counting? Smile? He stood straight up and wasn't complaining about the pain when the referee reached 10. Furthermore, it should be noted that when fighters sustain injuries like these they're often given several minutes to see if they can recover...

Carlos Buitrago UD12 Julian Yedras (118-110, 116-113, 118-111)

This was a good fight for the interim WBO minimumweight title and my personal pick for fight of the week. Do yourself a favor and watch it. Ultimately the 21 year old Buitrago improved to 27-0. Keep an eye on this kid. He's no Chocolatito but who the hell is these days? Chocorroncito's glaring technical deficiencies add to his excitement. Bring on a showdown with the full WBO champion Merlito Sabillo. Buitrago is ready.

If a bout is not mentioned which took place on one of the above cards it’s most likely because I haven’t got around to watching it yet. In the event that I do watch such a bout at a later time it’s still unlikely I will update this results column. My columns will be posted once a week, devoted to cards that most casual American boxing fans haven’t seen or heard of. For available footage of the previously reported bouts follow @sweetboxing on twitter. You may also email the author of this piece at rgbivins@gmail.com.
