Boxing Scene's Ronnie Nathanielsz was able to speak with Brandon Rios after the press conference that kicked off the promotion for Rios' upcoming fight with Manny Pacquiao. Rios had something to say about his mental preparation for the bout while breaking hearts around the globe and informing us that Pacquiao is not a god.
Here, via Boxing Scene, is what Rios had to say:
"The moment you give a fighter a little doubt, a little respect he thinks you're scared and he's got you already. But if you show him no respect and that you're ready to fight and not worried about him" it's different.
"I'm a warrior and anything can happen (in the ring). Manny is not a God. He's a human being just like me. I'm a fighter and I come to fight and I'll beat him."
Obviously, Rios is correct to say he that cannot be in awe of a star like Pacquaio when the two are together, whether it be in the ring or just press conferences. Rios has never had any issues with showing an opponent too much respect, if anything he shows everyone too little with a style that is more exciting than practical at times. Not that I'm complaining or anything.
And it is sad to confront the idea that Pacquiao may not be God. Either that or Juan Manuel Marquez made a huge mistake last December.
