The British super featherweight title will be on the line on August 17 in Cardiff, when Gary Buckland defends against Stephen Smith in a featured undercard bout on the Nathan Cleverly-Sergey Kovalev bill, airing on BoxNation in the UK, with the main event to be part of an HBO broadcast as well.
Buckland (27-2, 9 KO) has won nine straight fights since a 2010 loss to John Murray, including a Prizefighter tournament win where he upset Gary Sykes, who at the time held the British title. The two later met in a rematch with the belt on the line, and Buckland won again. He's held the belt since September 2011, making successful defenses against Paul Truscott and Stephen Foster.
Smith (16-1, 9 KO) is a former British and Commonwealth champion himself, beating John Simpson in a pair of close bouts in 2010-11. He lost both of those titles to Lee Selby in 2011. He has since won four fights in a row over lesser competition.
