Victor Ortiz's ring return looks like it's still a work in progress, as RingTV.com is reporting that Showtime's big Friday, September 6 tripleheader will not feature Ortiz, but rather Josesito Lopez, the man who broke Ortiz's jaw and put him on the shelf in 2012.
Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO) was previously reported to be headed for a comeback fight against Alfonso Gomez, which is a fight that could still happen in the near future, but it won't be coming on September 6. Lopez (30-6, 18 KO) is coming off of two straight losses to Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Maidana, and will apparently be facing Aaron Martinez (19-2-1, 4 KO). Martinez, 31, is a competent boxer without punching power, and is the sort of fighter that Lopez could use to rehab a bit and get something of a break after facing really strong guys in his last three bouts.
The night's main event between heavyweights Seth Mitchell and Chris Arreola is looking good to go, and Rafael Marquez will be back against Efrain Esquivias, as previously reported.
Ortiz was recently in the news outside of boxing (again), as he's signed on for The Expendables 3.
