Adrien Broner is taking Twitter aim at two fighters that fans have said they'd love to see him face soon, Argentina's Marcos Maidana and Lucas Matthysse. There has been some talk about making a Broner-Maidana fight for later this year for Broner's WBA welterweight title, but it also seems possible that Broner will move back down to 140 or even 135, as he has not vacated his WBC lightweight belt yet.
This evening, Broner had this to say on his unpredictable Twitter account (extremely edited for clarity):
"I see a lot of people hating on me and my decisions. Well listen, I ain't perfect, but I know one thing I'm undefeated and young and on top. ... I love my haters and the ones who love me. You're a damn fool if you think Marcos Maidana can beat me! And when I'm done when this bitch Maidana I'm going to fuck Matthysse up. Easy money."
Broner (27-0, 22 KO) is coming off of a debated split decision win over Paulie Malignaggi in his welterweight debut on June 22, and said after that fight that he'd let the fans decide his next opponent. That didn't mean a vote or anything, but if it meant anything it all, it seems to be that he'd listen to the talk and go from there. Maidana (34-3, 31 KO) has been one of the top names mentioned. He holds a minor WBA title and is promoted by Golden Boy, so he's available. Maidana stopped Josesito Lopez on June 8 in California.
This fight has already been talked about a good bit, but now that we're a bit removed from their recent performances, who would you pick if it goes down? Is Maidana too strong, or can Broner use his speed and craft advantages to overwhelm the gritty contender?
As for Matthysse, that's just idle talk for now. Lucas is teed up to face Danny Garcia on September 14 in one of the most highly-anticipated fights of 2013.
