Fights from this past Sunday through Saturday are covered, whether they are high profile or obscure.

I felt like I had watched a lot of fights this week so I decided to count them. There's about ~90 fights in this week's column...I clearly have problems. Anyways, check out the previous column here in case you missed it.

2013-08-18 Junggu Hall, Seoul, South Korea

KBS

Min-Wook Kim TKO11 Valentine Hosokawa

OPBF light welterweight title

----------------------------

2013-08-18 Amfiteatr, Miedzyzdroje, Poland

Polsat

Krzysztof Zimnoch UD8 Mateusz Malujda (79-71?, 80-71?, 80-70?)

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Zimnoch easily advanced to 16-0-1 after regressing in opposition from a 48 year old Oliver McCall. The old man nearly beat him, so, can we really blame Zimnoch's management? Nah...

Krzysztof Cieslak UD8 Lukasz Maszczyk (77-73?, 78-73?, 78-71?)

Patryk Szymanski TKO3 Mate Hornyak

Vacant WBO Youth welterweight title

----------------------------

2013-08-19 Best Buy Theater, New York, New York, USA

Fox Sports

Daniel Jacobs TKO3 Giovanni Lorenzo

Links to Scott Christ's recaps of the TV bouts can be found here, along with an overall assessment of boxing on the new channel Fox Sports 1. Jacobs picked up the vacant WBC Continental Americas middleweight title.

Gary Beriguette UD4 Kamal Muhammad (39-36, 39-36, 38-36)

Eddie Gomez TKO4 Steve Upsher Chambers

Terrell Gausha TKO2 Austin Marcum

Marcus Browne (T?)KO1 Robert Hill

----------------------------

2013-08-22 Fight Factory Gym, Brooklyn, New York, USA

Pandafeed.TV

Jose Torres TKO1 Miron Kadyrov

A press release detailing the night's action and where to watch it can be found here.

Pete Reyes TKO2 Juan Zapata

This is a must see KO, so go check it out online via Pandafeed.TV. It's free. What makes it even crazier is that Reyes was dropped earlier in the round.

Treysean Wiggins TKO2 Marcus Hall

Anthony Barnes UD4 Joe Yerdon (39-36, 38-37, 39-37)

Mikkel Lespiere MD4 Rashad Bogar (38-38, 40-36, 39-37)

BoxRec currently reports a UD, but doesn't list any scores... I'm just going to go by what I heard announced.

Jovan Sosa UD4 Mack Babb (40-36, 39-37, 39-37)

Marco Suarez UD4 Jamell Tyson (40-36, 39-37, 39-37)

----------------------------

2013-08-23 Pationoarul Dunarea, Galati, Romania

Eurosport

Christian Hammer TKO7 Leif Larsen

Larsen, in clear control of the fight, neglected his defense and got decked hard by and overhand right at the tail end of the 6th round. Hammer finished the job in the next round with a lethal left hook and defended his WBO European heavyweight title. If you like unskilled heavyweight wars, you'll love this fight.

Marcin Rekowski TKO4 Danny Williams

The sad career of the man who once upset Mike Tyson continues. Also, Rekowski improved to 10-0 (9 KOs).

Goekalp Oezekler D12 Istvan Szili (113-115?, 114-114?, 115-113?)

The British Eurosport commentary team thought Szili was robbed. Because the fight ended in a draw, no one secured the vacant WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title.

----------------------------

2013-08-23 Siam Park, Bangkok, Thailand

Thai TV 7

Rey Loreto TMD10 Pornsawan Porpramook (88-82?, 86-84?, 85-85?)

The 35 year old Pornsawan didn't appear to have much left in the tank and is no longer a viable top contender. But props to the 22 year old Loreto for pulling off a career best win. The fight ended a few rounds early because Pornsawan was cut from an accidental clash of heads. Loreto became the new interim PABA light flyweight champion.

Nop Kratingdaenggym W6 Jovill Marayan

Marayan was announced as Edison Berwela. They're just two Filipinos that look nothing alike, but, close enough, right? But hey, for all I know Edison Berwela was actually supposed to be fighting and didn't show up...

2013-08-23 Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, Dover, Delaware, USA

GFL.TV

Antowyan Aikens UD4 Marcus Brooks (39-37, 39-37, 40-36)

Anthony Miller TKO1 Dominic Goode

This was a highlight reel KO unfortunately tainted by a classless celebration from Miller. He basically squatted over his fallen opponent like he was taking a dump... I mean, it's not like it stopped me from watching it over and over again, but, you know, it's not right, right?

Amir Mansour UD12 Maurice Harris (116-112, 120-108, 120-108)

In the main event of the evening Mansour defended his World Boxing Federation Intercontinental heavyweight title and won the vacant USBA heavyweight title. Harris didn't offer much output wise but proved he knew what he was doing. Mansour's speed and combinations took him to a clear decision. Anyways, according to BoxRec one of those 120-108 scores should actually be 119-109. After the fight Mansour said he's only ducked 2 men in his life, Ike Ibeabuchi and Maurice Harris. For 3 years he didn't want to fight Harris, but obviously eventually found the courage.

Omar Douglas KO1 Anthony Napunyi

Edgar Santana TKO6 Luis Hernandez

Lamont Singletary UD4 Earl Platt (40-36, 40-36, 40-36)

Dusty Hernandez Harrison TKO4 Guillermo Valdes

Joey Tiberi UD4 Darrell Martin (38-37, 40-36, 40-36)

John Bowman UD4 Kenneth Moody (40-36, 40-36, 40-36)

----------------------------

2013-08-23 Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York, USA

ESPN

Argenis Mendez D12 Arash Usmanee (113-115, 114-114, 114-114)

Scott Christ recapped the full televised card here. Mendez defended his IBF super featherweight title.

Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar UD12 Claudio Marrero (115-112, 114-113, 116-111)

Interim WBA featherweight title

----------------------------

2013-08-23 Valley Forge Casino and Resort, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, USA

GFL.TV

Travis Kauffman UD8 Aaron Lyons (77-75, 80-72, 78-74)

I attended this event as press and covered the complete card here.

Frank Santos DeAlba UD6 Luis Esquilin (59-55, 58-56, 59-55)

Miguel Cartagena UD4 Eduardo Melendez (39-36, 39-37, 40-36)

Damon Allen UD4 Sammy Omar Quinones (39-37, 40-36, 40-36)

Khalib Whitmore KO1 Richard McCombs

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Gimnasio Municipal N° 1, Trelew, Chubut, Argentina

TyC

Omar Andres Narvaez TKO10 Hiroyuki Hisataka

I recapped this main event and touched upon its historical significance here. Narvaez retained his WBO super flyweight title.

Alan Isaias Luques Castillo UD6 Sebastian Eladio Ferreyra (60 [announced 66]-55, 60-54, 60-57)

Jonathan Eduardo Gaston Chavez UD6 Carlos Alberto Carmona (60-56, 60-55, 60-56)

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Africville Park, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Camcorder

Steven Wilcox TKO8 Marcel Maillet Jr

Vacant Canada - Professional Boxing Council light welterweight title

Steve Rolls UD6 Gyorgy Marosi (60-54, 60-54, 60-54)

Kyle McNeil UD6 Hassan Wasswa (60-54, 60-54, 60-54)

Jamie Marshall TKO1 Jeff Black

Ryan Burgess D4 Jessie MacMillan (38-38, 38-38, 39-37)

This was originally announced as a split decision for Burgess despite getting the cards right...it was really amateur hour in there. But in the end they got it right: majority draw.

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

BoxNation (UK) / ARD (Germany)

Juergen Braehmer UD12 Stefano Abatangelo (119-108, 119-108, 115-111)

Recaps on most of this card can be found here, courtesy of Scott Christ. Braehmer retained his EBU & WBO International light heavyweight titles.

Arthur Abraham UD12 Willbeforce Shihepo (116-113, 116-112, 117-111)

Abraham escaped with the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super middleweight title.

Kubrat Pulev UD12 Tony Thompson (116-112, 118-110, 117-111)

Pulev defended his IBF International heavyweight title and secured his #1 IBF ranking. However, contrary to popular belief he is not yet Wladimir's mandatory as Thompson was not rated #2. In fact, there is no one rated #2 at this time and the next highest contender is #3 Bryant Jennings. If Jennings vs Tomasz Adamek happens, the winner will likely end up the new #2. Then if that man is Jennings, he probably won't duck Pulev like Adamek did and a new mandatory challenger will be crowned. Anyone with a realistic chance of beating Wlad needs all the experience he can get, so, hopefully these fights do happen first.

Tyron Zeuge UD8 Nathan King (79-73?, 79-73?, 78-74?)

Dustin Dirks D8 Tomas Adamek (76-76, 75-77, 76-75)

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Warsteiner Hockeypark, Moenchengladbach, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany

Eurosport

Ina Menzer UD10 Goda Dailydaite (100-88?, 100-88?, 97-92?)

Vacant WIBA & interim World Boxing Federation female featherweight titles

Dimitri Sartison TKO2 Baker Barakat

Vitali Tajbert UD6 Mikheil Avakyan (60-53?, 58-55?, 60-53?)

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan

Camcorder

Rey Megrino UD8 Myung Ho Lee (78-73?, 77-73?, 76-74?)

Megrino entered as the WBC #12 flyweight contender while Lee was rated #15 by the same organization. Megrino has really turned his career around since his trilogy with the great Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

Sho Nakazawa TKO1 Dejchai Bovigym

Bovigym fell victim to a bad left hook...

Ryuto Kyoguchi D8 Adones Aguelo (77-76?, 76-77?, 77-77?)

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Lienzo Charro "Los Tamaulipecos", Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Televisa (Mexico) / Fox Deportes (USA)

Ganigan Lopez UD12 Mateo Handig (116-112, 118-110, 116-112)

Vacant WBC United States (USNBC) minimumweight title

Armando Santos UD12 Roilo Golez (116-111 [117-110 on BoxRec], 119-108, 118-109)

Vacant WBC United States (USNBC) flyweight title

Ramon Alvarez TKO6 Erik Mireles

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Budva, Montenegro

X Sport

Stanyslav Kashtanov KO10 Jaime Barboza

Artem Dalakian UD12 Juan Purisima (120-105?, 120-106?, 119-106?)

WBA International flyweight title

Oleksandr Hryshchuk TUD7 Jason Canoy (69-64?, 70-63?, 69-65?)

WBA Inter-Continental flyweight title

Oleg Yefimovych TKO1 Luis Armando Juarez

WBA Inter-Continental featherweight title

Artem Karpets UD12 Tobia Giuseppe Loriga (117-110?, 116-112?, 117-110?)

Vacant WBA Continental light middleweight title

Vyacheslav Senchenko TKO4 Carlos Adan Jerez

Senchenko gets to move on to his October showdown with Kell Brook. Although I officially rate Brook significantly over Malignaggi, I don't expect Brook to do as good as Paulie did...

Ismayl Sillakh RTD6 Konstantin Piternov

Sillakh looked sharp. Piternov took a beating and quit after 6 rounds.

Oleksandr Yehorov UD10 Diego Herminio Alejandro Sananco

Oleksiy Murashkin D4 Dmytro Kostenko (38-37?, 38-38?, 38-39?)

Yuriy Voynilenko UD4 Edgars Kalnars

----------------------------

2013-08-24 StubHub Center, Carson, California, USA

Showtime (USA) / Televisa (Mexico)

Jhonny Gonzalez TKO1 Abner Mares

Scott Christ recapped this bout here. Gonzalez snatched the WBC featherweight title in what many are calling the upset of the year. Honestly, the only way it's even a candidate is if you ignore women's boxing entirely...which most do.

Leo Santa Cruz TKO3 Victor Terrazas

Recap. Terrazas impressively lifted the WBC super bantamweight title.

Antonio Orozco KO3 Ivan Hernandez

Complete ShoExtreme Recap.

Joseph Diaz Jr TKO3 Noel Mendoza

Dominic Breazeale KO5 Lenroy Thomas

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Civic Auditorium, Glendale, California, USA

UniMas (USA) / Azteca 7 (Mexico)

Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez UD10 Derrick Findley (100-90, 100-90, 100-90)

Unbeaten middleweight prospect Ramirez cruised to a shutout victory.

Isaac Zarate MD6 Erik Ruiz (57-57, 60-54, 58-56)

----------------------------

2013-08-24 Bally's Event Center, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA

Pandafeed.TV

Ismael Garcia TKO2 Michael Sunkett

Anthony Burgin UD4 Jose Del Valle (40-36, 40-36, 39-37)

Teon Kennedy UD10 Joselito Collado (96-94, 98-92, 96-94)

In a hard fought main event Kennedy, who was later hospitalized with a broken jaw, overcame the odds and walked away with a unanimous decision victory. Plans for Kennedy being rebuilt into a featherweight / super featherweight contender will have to be put on hold for a while. He's not happy about it, but he likely won't be able to fight again until February or March of next year. In the meantime whip out your notebook add another name to the list of fighters that break their jaws and don't quit (or the much shorter list of fighters that additionally go on to win).

Decarlo Perez UD8 Jamar Freeman (77-75, 78-74, 77-75)

Rafael Montalvo TKO5 Jose Javier Calderon

Dave Valykeo MD4 Brian Donahue (38-38, 39-37, 39-37)

If a bout is not mentioned which took place on one of the above cards it’s most likely because I haven’t got around to watching it yet.  In the event that I do watch such a bout at a later time it’s still unlikely I will update this results column.  My columns will be posted once a week, devoted to cards that most casual American boxing fans haven’t seen or heard of.  For available footage of the previously reported bouts follow @sweetboxing on twitter.  You may also email the author of this piece at rgbivins@gmail.com.
