They've already hit Macao, Shanghai, and Singapore, and this week they're rolling into the two biggest American markets, starting this afternoon in New York. Top Rank will stream the press conference live beginning at 5:30 pm EDT, and BLH will be here for live updates and then some nonsense after, too.
To best follow the live updates, though, you'll want to use your Twitter machine and follow me at @scottchristBLH. That's where I really cut dang-gunged loose and let the rip-roarin' wiseacre jibber-jabber flow free as the the mighty Mississipp'.
Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO) and Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO) are both coming off of losses, but the fight is expected to make big-time money in Macao, as it's the first really global fight to take place there. Top Rank has run two very successful shows based around Zou Shiming in April and July, but this is obviously a show that stretches far beyond that. People will be flying in from all over the world for this one, and it's a chance to establish Macao as a big-fight destination.
Things you can expect to hear today:
- Brandon Rios is excited and ready and he will be in great shape.
- Freddie will talk in one really long sentence and then he will say "thank you" and that will be his entire time at the podium. Works every time.
- Manny Pacquiao will be happy that Rios likes to fight toe-to-toe so the fans can be happy with a good fight.
- Bob Arum will make a couple of oddly-timed and paced wisecracks; Arum is to joke-telling as Willie Nelson is to singing. You never quite know where it's going.
