Koki Eto wears his newly acquired interim WBA flyweight title after FOTY candidate

Welcome to another results column.  If you missed last weeks, you can check it out here.

Anyways, this was a busy week for me in general so here's some of the other things I put out / contributed to:

Boxing rankings for August 2013: Calm before the storm

The International Boxing Hall of Fame and its inductions that have yet to come

Danny Garcia gets media day in hometown

Additionally, Lucas Ketelle published an article about me on brojackson.com after interviewing me some days earlier. You can follow him on twitter @LukieBoxing. He shares information about my life that you wouldn't necessarily know just by reading my work (even if you've read all of it).

2013-07-28 Bare Knuckle Boxing I

This new series brought to you courtesy of DirecTV involves boxers fighting in a "pit" with no ropes. There's nowhere to run but plenty of glove to hide behind despite the bare knuckles... Former world champion and 2002 trainer of the year Buddy McGirt was on commentary and hall of famer Michael Buffer did "pit" announcing.

Eric Fowler TKO1 Carl McNickles

This was an unexpected main event considering some of the fighters on this card, but it ended in spectacular fashion. A 3 punch series of hooks knocked McNickles out cold. McNickles looked gone after the very 1st shot but his knees didn't buckle. Somebody really could have yelled "tiiiiiimmmmmmbbbbeerrrrrrr" as McNickles toppled over, not that I'd ever consider doing something so shameless... Anyways, given Fowler's amateur boxing pedigree, BKB just may have a future with this lightweight.

Jason Gavern TKO6 Willie Perryman

Taneal Goyco TKO4 Jason Naugler

This was about as good of a 1 sided 7 minute fight as you can get (all rounds are 2 minutes in BKB).

Julian Pollard TKO2 Randy Smith

Bryan Abraham TKO2 Chris Russell

A beautiful right hook separated Russell from his senses. I think I'll add it to my year end highlight video...

Eddie Caminero TKO4 Marteze Logan

This should have been a DQ victory as the referee stopped the fight simply because Logan did too much holding, but whatever...

Jesse Orta TKO1 Brandon Chagnon

Louis Webster TKO2 Mike Jackson

Farkhad Sharipov UD5 Matt Doherty (50-46, 50-45, 49-48)

Chris Traietti KO2 Larry Hopkins

Hopkins, the same man that dropped a decision to Dewey Bozella 2 years ago, was KOed by a headbutt in his BKB debut. The referee ruled no knockdown but counted to 10 when Hopkins remained on the pit floor...

Mike Tawatchai UD12 Ricardo Roa (115-113?, 116-112?, 116-112?)

IBF Asia super bantamweight title

Patomsuk Pathompothong TKO2 Eusebio Baluarte

WIBA minimumweight title

----------------------

2013-08-01 Herceg Novi, Montenegro

Local TV

Zvjezdan Vidakovic UD12 Giuseppe Brischetto (115-112?, 116-110?, 115-110?)

Vacant WBC Mediterranean light heavyweight title

Marko Nikolic PTS4 Robert Halas

----------------------

2013-08-01 Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines

TBS (Japan)

Tomoki Kameda UD12 Paulus Ambunda (118-110, 116-112, 117-111)

Scott Christ touched upon the historical impact of this fight here. Kameda won the WBO bantamweight title and was later awarded a Guinness World Record certificate along with his 2 brothers.

----------------------

2013-08-01 Bangkok, Thailand

Thai TV 7

Koki Eto UD12 Kompayak Por Pramook (114-113, 114-113, 116-111)

Eto became the first Japanese born fighter in the nation's history to win a world title in Thailand and it was arguably the fight of the year. Unfortunately for Eto, Japan doesn't actually recognize interim world titles nor did any mainstream media (to my knowledge) actually watch the fight. Those details may soon change, but for now it is what it is. Koki Eto is the interim WBA flyweight champion courtesy of a final round knockdown in an all-out war.

Every single round was thrilling. EVERY. SINGLE. ROUND. Rounds 9 and 12 were some of the very best of the year in any fight. Kompayak's toughness and raw power + Koki's volume and leverage = a pugilistic wet dream.

Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep TKO5 Sammy Hagler

----------------------

2013-08-02 Club Atlético Talleres, Remedios de Escalada, Buenos Aires, Argentina

TV Publica

Gabriela Bouvier SD10 Romina Elizabeth Alcantra (99.5-93, 94-96, 99-93.5)

Vacant South American female flyweight title

Diego Luis Pichardo Liriano UD6 Pablo Ariel Gomez (60-53.5, 60-53, 60-53.5)

----------------------

2013-08-02 Chumsaeng, Nakhon Sawan, Thailand

Thai TV 7

Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym TD2 Ben Mananquil

There was only 1 official knockdown in round 1 but it easily could have been scored 10-7 regardless. Mananquil beat the living hell out of Kwanpichit. The accidental clash of heads in round 2 that stopped the bout early due to opening a cut outside of Kwanpichit's right eye is one of the most fortunate injuries I've seen all year. Consequently the unbeaten Thai retained his WBO Oriental flyweight title via a technical draw. Mananquil, a Filipino, got to keep his undefeated record intact as well.

Bualuang OnesongchaiGym PTS6 Palangchai Lookmuangpetch

Tewa Tor Surat PTS6 Anuntachai Sor Por Lor Krungthep

You-Jie Zeng KO2 Fonluang Sor Singyu

Nonggift Or Wanchoed PTS6? Nongbua Lookprai-aree

Channel 7 only showed the first 3 rounds then went off air...

2013-08-02 Bob Carpenter Center, Newark, Delaware, USA

PandaFeed.TV

Ray Robinson TKO7 Ray Narh

Vacant USBA welterweight title

Samuel Kotey Neequaye UD10 Dorin Spivey (97-92, 98-91, 96-93)

NABA lightweight title

Taneal Goyco MD6 Frankie Filippone (57-57, 58-56, 58-56)

Joey Tiberi MD6 Miguel Antonio Rodriquez (38-38, 39-37, 39-38)

Omar Douglas TKO3 DeWayne Wisdom

Andrew Farmer SD6 Hector Marengo (56-57, 58-55, 58-55)

----------------------

2013-08-02 Buffalo Run Casino, Miami, Oklahoma, USA

ESPN

Javier Fortuna D10 Luis Franco (91-99, 96-94, 95-95)

There's no prior BLH recap for this bout and I damn sure don't have any intentions of doing one now, but, Scott Christ and I felt Franco deserved to win on clean punching and good defense. Teddy Atlas thought the 99-91 scorecard for Franco was a joke, but, he had the same card in the opposite direction for Fortuna (a bigger joke). This fight elevated Franco into the BLH featherweight rankings and dropped Fortuna out.

Kermit Cintron UD10 Jonathan Batista (99-88, 98-89, 98-89)

The scorecards indicate Cintron dominated, but, he didn't...

2013-08-03 Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan

Camcorder

Daiki Kaneko TKO1 Mitsuya Omura

Japanese super featherweight title

----------------------

2013-08-03 Hipódromo Caliente, Arena Tecate, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico

Azteca 7

Jorge Paez Jr UD10 Rodolfo Quintanilla (98-91, 97-92, 99-90)

El Ratón le gusta el queso. El Maromerito inches closer to welterweight relevancy.

Alejandro Gonzalez Jr UD10 Jose Cayetano (98-91, 97-92, 96-93)

----------------------

2013-08-03 Deportivo Agustín Ramos Millan, Toluca, México, Mexico

Televisa (Mexico) / Fox Sports Espanol (USA)

Zulina Munoz TKO1 Maribel Ramirez

This was officially recorded as a regular knockout but it was most definitely technical. Ramirez was caught with a right hand, fell to her knees, and then waited for the referee to count her out (she quit). The referee however got tired of counting after 8 and waved it off on 9 (he never actually said 9). This actually gave Ramirez an out to pretend like she didn't quit as she was cheated on the count, but she was honest enough to not protest. Munoz defended her WBC female super flyweight title.

Bruno Sandoval TKO6 Gustavo Garibay

WBC United States (USNBC) middleweight title

Jose Javier Regalado UD10 Javier Armando Rodriguez (100-97, 100-97, 100-97)

I have a hard time believing these announced scorecards are accurate. It implies every judge thought Regalado won 3 rounds while the other 7 were even.

Erasto Roque UD4 Eduardo Hernandez

----------------------

2013-08-03 Gimnasio Nuevo León, Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico

Cadena Tres

Adrian Estrella KO5 Hector Javier Marquez

This should have been a 4th round corner retirement but the referee issued a 10 count at the beginning of the 5th while Marquez remained on his stool. Estrella defended his WBC FECARBOX super featherweight title and is now 13-0 with all victories by way of knockout.

Jairo Lopez KO9 Marcos Villasana Jr

This was the same situation as the bout above, except after the 8th round. Lopez rallied back after getting off the canvas in round 1. The comeback was impressive considering Lopez was nearly knocked out himself.

Jorge Alberto Martinez TUD8 Ivan Rodriguez (78-74, 78-74, 80-72)

An accidental clash of heads opened a cut on "Kley" Martinez in the final round which stopped the fight a tad early.

Humberto Flores UD6 Erick Mireles (60-54, 60-54, 60-54)

The last round wasn't even 2 minutes long, but, whatever...

----------------------

2013-08-03 Arena Roberto Duran, Panama City, Panama

TV Max (Panama) / TyC (Argentina)

Luis Concepcion UD12 Nestor Daniel Narvaes (118-108, 118-108, 118-109)

Based on how well Narvaes did against Toshiyuki Igarashi (I thought he won) this was a competitive fight on paper. But, in the ring Concepcion dominated and subsequently retained his WBC Silver flyweight title. Narvaes did well to last the full 12 rounds as he seemed ready to go at multiple moments.

----------------------

2013-08-03 Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, USA

NBC Sports (USA) / Polsat (Poland)

Curtis Stevens TKO1 Saul Roman

Stevens picked up the vacant NABF middleweight title. Scott Christ recapped this bout here.

Tomasz Adamek UD10 Dominick Guinn (98-92, 99-91, 99-91)

...and this one here.

Thabiso Mchunu UD10 Eddie Chambers (97-93, 99-91, 99-91)

...and this one here.

Vyacheslav Glazkov TKO2 Byron Polley

A press release detailing this fight (which I saw) and the remaining undercard (which I didn't see) can be found here. Glazkov looked good. Polley looked, well, like a fat piece of crap. No offense.

If a bout is not mentioned which took place on one of the above cards it’s most likely because I haven’t got around to watching it yet.  In the event that I do watch such a bout at a later time it’s still unlikely I will update this results column.  My columns will be posted once a week, devoted to cards that most casual American boxing fans haven’t seen or heard of.  For available footage of the previously reported bouts follow @sweetboxing on twitter.  You may also email the author of this piece at rgbivins@gmail.com.
