Canelo Alvarez: 'Mayweather is very, very worried'

Canelo Alvarez believes he senses some trepidation in the Floyd Mayweather camp ahead of Saturday night's showdown.

Canelo Alvarez is the underdog, and in some ways, the pressure is all on his opponent this Saturday night when he faces Floyd Mayweather on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Alvarez believes that he senses a little bit of nervousness in the Mayweather camp:

"I think that the way he's talking, he's underestimating me," Alvarez said on a recent conference call. "But at the same time, I think that he's worried. I think that he's very, very worried. But he's always been like that. He's always been a talker. That's the kind of person he is, but I don't care. I don't care what he's saying. I don't care what he's thinking. What I care about is what I'm saying and what I'm thinking. And I'm controlling it, and that's what matters to me."

Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO) has given off the air of quiet focus and confidence in the build-up to this fight, and that's continuing with this statement. But everything can go out the window once the bell rings, and Canelo will definitely be in there with someone on a level he hasn't seen before. So we'll see if the steely gaze of Canelo pre-fight translates to fight night.
