Floyd Mayweather: 'I'm just an old school fighter with the remedy on how to win'

New, 9 comments

Floyd Mayweather talks about Canelo Alvarez, his preparation for Saturday's fight, and gives respect to his recent opponents.

Question

"Why have you branded yourself untouchable?"

Floyd Mayweather

"I haven't branded myself untouchable, I just dedicated myself to my craft and just believed in my skills and had a tremendous team behind me. I had a brilliant game plan."

Question

"Canelo's said you've underestimated him. Why would he have that thought?"

Floyd Mayweather

"Because I'm not nervous. Because I'm not nervous and it's just another day. He knows I don't get nervous. I don't get butterflies. He's just another opponent to me."

Question

"Does the media circus around you, it gets bigger and bigger, does it bother you?"

Floyd Mayweather

"It's life. This is what I chose. Of course a lot of times, I wish I could take pictures with every fan. I wish I could sign autographs for every fan. I can't, so that bothers me, but I'm thankful for everybody that's supported me over the years."

Question

"How proud are you when you see your kids, when they walk around seeing you get this attention?"

Floyd Mayweather

"It's not about that. It's not about the attention, it's not about the money. It's about keeping your family close and teaching your children responsibility. Teaching your kid responsibility and just having manners. That's what it's about. You want your daughters to grow up to be beautiful young ladies and be smart and intelligent, and you want the same thing for your boys."

Question

"Are you predicting a knockout?"

Floyd Mayweather

"I can't really say. I can predict it's gonna be a good fight."

Question

"How would you talk about your conditioning right now? How do you feel?"

Floyd Mayweather

"Last night I went for a five mile run, a little light five mile run. I was running at 12 miles per hour for five miles. So that was under 30 minutes. So I'm in good shape."

Question

"I don't expect you to give us your strategy, but give me a little bit."

Floyd Mayweather

"I'm not gonna give you guys my strategy. Whatever I give the media is what I tell 'em. I'm not gonna give nobody my strategy, my strategy is just to win."

Question

"What should fans expect on Saturday?"

Floyd Mayweather

"Well, they gotta pay. I can't tell you what to expect. I'm not gonna tell you that. Just buy the pay-per-view, and expect a good fight."

Question

"I've been meaning to ask you, what's your routine like the night before the fight."

Floyd Mayweather

"The fans know my routine if they're watching All Access, or in the past, if they watched 24/7 in the past, because they show what I do leading up to the fight."

Question

"You always want the best from your opponents, so I'm going to assume you want the best from Canelo, right?"

Floyd Mayweather

"Whatever he brings. Whatever he brings to the table is what he brings to the table. I'm gonna go out there, I'm not gonna play."

Question

"Is this the most talented fighter maybe you've fought in the last four or five years?"

Floyd Mayweather

"Oh, we cannot say that. We cannot say that. Absolutely not. That's not true. After the fight, they're not gonna give him a grade."

Question

"Do you surprise yourself sometimes by the performances you have, because everybody expects you to beat these guys you're in against, but, like, with Robert, you completely blew him out. Are you ever surprised at the way you're able to beat these guys?"

Floyd Mayweather

"I have the mental edge. I have more experience in big fights of this magnitude. I just make it do what it do, man. You put 'em in front of me, and I beat 'em. Line 'em up like bowling pins, and I knock 'em down."

Question

"What's Canelo gonna bring to the fight Saturday?"

Floyd Mayweather

"I don't know what he's gonna bring. Hopefully he brings his body."

Question

"The last real young fighter you fought was Ortiz, and his immaturity came out in that fight. Any similarities in this fight?"

Floyd Mayweather

"I think this kid is steady. I think he's steady, calm. I think he'll stay relaxed. I think he's gonna be respectful. He's no different from Ortiz. You disrespect, you get disrespected, but Ortiz is a young, strong champion. All these guys. Robert Guerrero is a young, strong champion, I take my hat off to him. Ortiz. But we had to face each other. What else can I say? Cotto, a future Hall of Famer. Robert's probably gonna go down in the Hall of Fame if he gets some more good victories under his belt. These guys are young, strong champions. I'm just an old school fighter that got the remedy on how to win."
