Boxing results, September 2 - 7: Poor judges and referees continue to tarnish the sport

Because this is the week of "The One" and no one is even going to bother to read this, I didn't bother to go into much detail on the listed fights or mention as many as I could have. Hell, I didn't even comment on the numerous errors that could be found on BoxRec. But, if there was an important fight on US or UK television, our fearless leader Scott Christ probably covered it already. So there's that.

Then there's this, the latest Bad Culture radio show that I appeared on. We (Jeandra LeBeauf, Ismael AbduSalaam, Jamieson Welsh, Brandon Stubbs, Gordie Tamayo, and myself) actually talk about "The One," among other things, some of which are pretty damn funny, so that's probably more relevant to you than what you're going to read below anyways.

But let's get on with it already. It's Friday the 13th and I'm driving to Harrah's Philadelphia for the Eric Hunter-Mike Oliver card. They aren't exactly top world rated featherweights, but I expect a competitive and skillful matchup. You'll get a full recap on that card early Saturday morning, if you can even find it on the site. This place is overloaded with Mayweather-Canelo posts right now, which means you probably never even found this column to begin with, which means I should have stopped typing a long time ago...

There will be no placating what transpired in this fight. Nobuo got robbed. That's all there is to it. He had the advantage on clean punching, defense, ring generalship, and even effective aggression (keyword effective). So now the 37 year old Denkaosan, who clearly showed his age on this night, is the new interim WBA super flyweight champion. But you know what? Showtime did not record any part of this bout and I have not seen any footage of it from any other source. So please stop asking me for the fight, seriously. Nonetheless, I was informed by people on the scene that it was a Knockout of the Year candidate. Here's what Jeandra LeBeauf at badculture.net had to say about it:

The undercard shocker of the evening came via Rico Ramos with a knockout victory over Carlos Velasquez in the 10th round. Bouncing back from another potential loss, Ramos devastated Velasquez in the pocket with a short left hook that left him Pacquiao'd on the canvas for roughly 5 minutes. When a potential fight ensued in the corner, members of the Velasquez family/corner had to be escorted out of the building.
