Luke Thomas of SB Nation and Paulie Malignaggi spoke about tomorrow night's Showtime pay-per-view main event between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez and the Danny Garcia vs Lucas Matthysse co-feature, which Malignaggi will call alongside Mauro Ranallo and Al Bernstein for Showtime Sports.
The entire preview is definitely worth watching, as Paulie nicely breaks down the fight on both sides. Here's what he said about what Canelo might be able to do as the underdog:
"One thing I point to is the fact that Canelo Alvarez is the first legitimate, real junior middleweight Floyd Mayweather is fighting. He's fought Miguel Cotto, but that was a guy coming out of his weight class, a former welterweight, a former super lightweight, just like Floyd was. He kind of grew out of the weight class.
"Canelo Alvarez is only a young 23 years old. The fact that he was a welterweight earlier was only due to the fact that he was a kid and he was still growing into his body. So he's a full-blown, full-fledged, grown into as a man junior middleweight. The thing that I at least expect Canelo to try to use in the fight is his physical capabilities as far as being the bigger man. Mayweather has all the other attributes. He has the speed advantage, he has the experience advantage, the intelligence. He's probably a smarter fighter, because they don't come much smarter than Floyd Mayweather in the ring.
"I expect Canelo to at least try to use his size, because he's naturally a junior middleweight."
