Jermell Charlo will look to stay unbeaten on October 14, when the 23-year-old junior middleweight prospect faces Jose Angel "Silver Boy" Rodriguez in a FOX Sports 1 main event on Golden Boy's Monday night boxing series.
Charlo (21-0, 10 KO) is coming off of a 12-round decision win over Demetrius Hopkins on June 8, which was part of the Maidana-Lopez undercard on Showtime. The Houston native and his twin brother Jermall have started to make some waves beyond just being prospects, and are inching their way toward contender status.
Rodriguez (17-2-1, 2 KO) is a 34-year-old southpaw from New York who doesn't figure to pose any major threat to Charlo, quite frankly, and is coming off of a win over Denis Douglin, who has gone from talked-about prospect to failing young fighter in a hurry the last two years. Charlo faced Douglin in June 2012 and knocked him out in five rounds. Rodriguez's win over Douglin was his first fight since 2010.
