Danny Garcia to return March 15 on Showtime

Danny Garcia will return to the ring March 15 on Showtime.

The top 140-pound fighter in the world will be making his return less than two months from now. Danny Garcia, the current  holder of the WBC and WBA junior welterweight belts, will making his return to the ring on March 15 according to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael. Rafael spoke with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer on Monday who told him that Garcia will be making a defense of his titles, killing any idea that he would immediately move up in weight or was a dark horse contender to face Floyd Mayweather on May 3rd. Rafael mentions that Garcia's handlers simply didn't want the Mayweather fight for him yet, and removed his name from any discussions about it.

Thus far there is no set opponent or even a venue, although it will be televised by Showtime. According to Rafael's article, Schaefer is meeting with Showtime's sports head Stephen Espinoza about who Garcia will fight, among several other topics, this week. The article also states that Peter Quillin's next fight could take place on the undercard of Garcia's.

Finally, the date of March 15 would figure to have a healthy amount of viewers as it will be the Saturday after Canelo Alvarez's fight with Alfredo Angulo takes place on pay-per-view. The normal custom is for a pay-per-view main event to be replayed the following Saturday, which tends to bring in a good audience from those who didn't catch it and those who simply want to watch again. It's another big opportunity for Garcia as he continues to build his STAR POWER.

Any suggestions on who you think he should fight next? Does he come back relatively soft after the win over Lucas Matthysse or jump right back into the fire?
