Ortiz vs Collazo results: Eddie Gomez outpoints Daquan Arnett in prospect battle

Eddie Gomez was the more polished prospect in tonight's 154-pound showdown with Daquan Arnett, winning an unanimous decision in Brooklyn.

In an interesting, competitive, but clear decision, Eddie Gomez outpointed Daquan Arnett tonight at the Barclays Center on FOX Sports winning, leaving with his unbeaten record intact and taking Arnett's "0" in a battle of noted prospects.

Gomez (16-0, 10 KO) simply seemed the more complete fighter and definitely the more powerful puncher, particularly on a crushing bit of body work in round seven that put Arnett (11-1, 7 KO) on the canvas. Arnett managed to survive that final 50 seconds or so with Gomez swinging for the fences, but that was the exclamation point moment for Gomez, who won on scores of 98-91, 97-92, and 97-92. BLH had it 97-92 for Gomez

It's not that Arnett fought poorly, however. He showed some real potential and even worked in a fairly effective shoulder roll in the later rounds, which led to some success with a right hand counter that he hadn't been able to find in much of the bout. Arnett still looks to have a promising future, but he was just outboxed and outfought by a better man in this one.
