WBA middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin, tipped the scales at 165 while Rubio hit 167.5lbs during the seven day weigh-in. That means things are looking good for fight time as they both weighed-in under the seven day limit of 168lbs. The seven-day limit is in accordance with the WBC rules, since Rubio is the interim titleholder for that organization.

"We're a week out and both fighters appear to be in excellent shape," said Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions.

Gennady is finishing up his training camp with Abel Sanchez in high altitude Big Bear, CA while Rubio puts on the finishing touches to his camp in Oxnard, CA at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy.

The co-feature to this bout will have Nonito Donaire taking on Nicholas Walters at 126lbs, while Edwin Rodriguez will end a near one-year layoff when he faces Azea Augustama. Rodriguez hasn't been in the ring since last November when he was thoroughly dismantled in a rare appearance from Andre Ward.
