Arum: Canelo and Cotto are negotiating, Golovkin could fight winner

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says that talks are ongoing for Miguel Cotto vs Canelo Alvarez, and that Gennady Golovkin would be in line to face the winner.

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

How do you see Nonito, and how have you seen him in the last two fights? Do you think there's a change in him?

"I would say his performances in the last two fights have been a disappointment, but they say he's training unbelievably and he looks great."

How do you think his fight will go on Saturday?

"It'll be a shootout. One guy's going to get knocked out."

Do you think it should have been the main event? Your guy instead of Gennady?

"No, no. That was Tom Loeffler's date, and he was doing the Golovkin fight, and he was nice enough to accommodate our fight."

Now speaking of Tom and his guy, they're pushing for a Cotto fight, but it seems maybe Cotto and Canelo might happen in May. Can you comment on that?

"Yeah, that's what we're trying to do. Have Cotto and Canelo fight, and Gennady is right there, probably could fight the winner."

How far along are negotiations for Cotto and Canelo?

"I think they're ongoing. I know Todd (duBoef) is here in town, he's talking to Oscar. I think Cotto's in town. So, you know, it's taking place."

Do you know around when it might get announced?

"Well, let's see how soon it gets made."
