Tonight at 11 pm EDT on beIN Sports Espanol and Mexico's Televisa, Jhonny Gonzalez will defend the WBC featherweight title against popular veteran Jorge Arce from Los Mochis, Mexico.
Gonzalez (56-8, 47 KO) upset Abner Mares last August to win the title, and defended against Clive Atwell in his last fight on May 24. The 33-year-old Gonzalez is a two-time featherweight titleholder and also held a title at bantamweight, as well as challenging and losing to Toshiaki Nishioka for a super bantamweight belt in 2009.
Arce (64-7-2, 49 KO) may be on his ninth life, or maybe this is just his sixth or seventh. We've been speculating for seven years that Arce might be done, and he just keeps on. He's won three straight fights since a 2012 thrashing at the fists of Nonito Donaire in a challenge for the WBO super bantamweight belt. The 35-year-old warrior has held titles at 108, 115, 118, and 122 pounds, as well as a long stint as an interim titleholder at 112, when he was a legit top fighter in the division.
Also on the card, super featherweight prospect Adrian Estrella (18-0, 17 KO) will face former super bantamweight and featherweight titleholder Celestino Caballero (37-5, 24 KO), who at 38 is likely winding down his career.
