Andrzej Fonfara gets bounce-back win over Doudou Ngumbu

Andrzej Fonfara got back in the win column tonight on Showtime, beating Doudou Ngumbu in Chicago.

It certainly wasn't the sort of main event that Showtime subscribers pay to see, but Andrzej Fonfara returned with a solid comeback win over Doudou Ngumbu tonight at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, winning on scores of 97-93, 97-93, and 98-92 over eight rounds, coming back from a slow start to get the clear victory.

Fonfara (26-3, 15 KO) was caught by some left hooks from Ngumbu (33-6, 12 KO) in the first couple of rounds, and Ngumbu found a home for a right hand, too, as the fight progressed. But the 26-year-old Fonfara got his own offense going after those first pair of rounds, too, and looked the stronger and heavier-handed man over the course of the fight, even though Ngumbu was never truly out of it, and never faded out or gave away rounds.

BLH also had it 97-93 for Fonfara, who was fighting for the first time since a very competitive loss to WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson in May.

Fonfara landed 173/558 (31%) of his punches in the fight, including 46/247 (19%) jabs and a healthy 127/311 (41%) of his power punches. Ngumbu was less active, but had some success, scoring on 110/343 (32%) of his punches, including 12/85 (14%) jabs and 98/258 (38%) power shots.
