Andre Dirrell will be back in the ring on December 19, as the super middleweight contender looks to keep busy, and RingTV.com is reporting that his opponent could be veteran Derek Edwards. The fight would be part of the Stevenson-Sukhotsky card on Showtime, from Quebec City.
Dirrell (23-1, 16 KO) still hasn't faced anyone considered a legitimate or even fringe contender since making his initially slow-moving comeback, but now that he's back with Al Haymon, at least the fights are coming quickly. The 31-year-old "Matrix" still has all the ability he'll need to make a serious push in the division, and has looked very sharp in his last couple of wins over Vladine Biosse and Nick Brinson. Of course, they're also wins over mid-level guys, and nothing more.
Edwards (27-3-1, 14 KO) made some waves with a TKO-1 shocker win over Badou Jack in February, and hasn't fought since. More accurately judging his standing, he was stopped in nine by Matt Korobov in his fight prior to that, and went to a 10-round draw with Anthony Hanshaw prior to losing to Korobov. He also has losses to Adonis Stevenson and Marcus "Too Much" Johnson.
