Argentine veteran Javier Chacon will now face WBA "regular" bantamweight titlist Jamie McDonnell this Saturday at Liverpool's Echo Arena, a fight which is part of the Cleverly-Bellew II undercard on Sky Box Office.
Chacon (20-2, 5 KO) is replacing Colombia's Walberto Ramos (23-6-2, 16 KO), who is having visa issues and couldn't get to the United Kingdom in time. In reality, it's a sideways move -- neither Ramos nor Chacon are legitimate contenders at 118 pounds, and by BoxRec rankings, at least, Chacon is an upgrade. He's ranked No. 53 in the world at bantamweight, with Ramos at No. 109.
If McDonnell (24-2-1, 11 KO) wins as expected, he's already signed to face WBO titleholder Tomoki Kameda early next year. Kameda has not yet signed for the fight, but is expected to do so with a McDonnell victory. Kameda (31-0, 19 KO) last fought on November 1 in Chicago, beating Alejandro Hernandez by decision.
