Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade has withdrawn from his scheduled December 13 WBO junior middleweight title defense against Jermell Charlo, which was to be part of the Amir Khan vs Devon Alexander card on Showtime. Whether it's injury or illness wasn't noted in the Golden Boy Promotions statement, only that Andrade is "unavailable."
Andrade (21-0, 14 KO) was to make the second defense of the belt he won against Vanes Martirosyan in November 2013, following a lopsided defeat of Brian Rose on June 14, which aired on HBO. The 26-year-old titleholder had been offered a chance to fight for the vacant WBO middleweight title, but turned that down to stay at 154 pounds.
This is the second time this year that one of the Charlo twins has lost a scheduled title bout. Jermell (24-0, 11 KO) unfortunately follows in the footsteps of Jermall, whose May 3 bout with Carlos Molina was canceled when Molina was arrested and eventually deported.
There is no word yet if Andrade-Charlo will be rescheduled for a later date. The show still features Khan-Alexander, Keith Thurman vs Leonard Bundu, and the returns of Abner Mares and Victor Ortiz in separate bouts, and Beibut Shumenov and Errol Spence are also scheduled for action.
