Cuban lightweight contender Yuriorkis Gamboa will be back in action on November 15, as the former featherweight titleholder looks to get back on track and stay busy with a tune-up bout against Joel Montes de Oca.
Gamboa (26-1, 16 KO) fought and lost for the first time in June, as he was overpowered and stopped by Terence Crawford in nine exciting rounds on HBO. The 32-year-old Cuban is still promoted by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, but this show is promoted by Pepe Gomez, who agreed to get Gamboa a spot on the bill. Jackson has no dates lined up at the moment, and it was vital to Gamboa and his team that he get back in the ring.
Montes de Oca (18-3, 10 KO) doesn't figure to be any real threat to Gamboa, but he did score a career-best win in his last fight on May 10, in that he beat someone with a winning record. Most of his career has been spent fighting opponents making pro debuts, or with only a handful of fights to their name. He started his career 4-3, and has rattled off 14 straight wins since then.
