Five years ago yesterday, Andre Ward stunned the world with a dominant performance in his first big step up in competition, slicing up Mikkel Kessler to kick off his epic run in the Super Six World Boxing Classic, which would eventually establish Ward as the best 168-pound fighter in the sport.

Kessler, now 35, said on Twitter that he'd like a rematch with Ward, who is currently out of action in a promotional dispute, and hasn't fought since November 2013:

Kessler (46-3, 35 KO) hasn't had a particularly active career since that loss. He beat Carl Froch on points in his native Denmark in April 2010, but then pulled out of the Super Six tournament with an eye injury. He returned in 2011 to beat Mehdi Bouadla, then stopped Allan Green and Brian Magee in 2012, before losing a rematch with Froch in May 2013. That was his last fight.

Ward (27-0, 14 KO) beat Green, Arthur Abraham, and Froch in the Super Six, and also defeated Sakio Bika in a non-tournament bout after Andre Dirrell bailed on the event, as well. Following the win over Froch in December 2011, Ward has fought just two times, beating Chad Dawson in September 2012 and Edwin Rodriguez in November 2013.

Kessler has also been mentioned as a possible opponent for Froch in 2015, as the two could fight in a rubber match in either London or Nottingham.
