Tonight (well, Thursday, at 1:00 am EST) on Channel 7 in Thailand, Mexico's Oswaldo Novoa will defend his WBC strawweight championship against Wanheng Menayothin in a 12-round bout. BLH will be here with live coverage and results.
Novoa (14-4-1, 9 KO) is a better fighter than his record indicates, having won seven in a row including an upset of Xiong Zhao Zhong to win the WBC belt. Wanheng (35-0, 11 KO) is unbeaten but that doesn't always mean a lot. We'll see how this fight shakes out, but it's a good one on paper.
There was some disagreement about the gloves, with Novoa wanting to use his Cleto Reyes gloves from Mexico, and someone from Wanheng's team -- but not the fighter himself -- complaining about that. As far as I know, that was resolved, and either Novoa will wear his Reyes gloves, or he'll use the Twins gloves used regularly in Thailand.
