Bernard Hopkins and Sergey Kovalev are fit and ready and ready to go and ready to rock and the fight is ON! for tomorrow night on HBO World Championship Boxing, as the two light heavyweight titlists made weight today in Atlantic City.
Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KO) weighed in at a fit and ready 173½ pounds, while Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KO) weighed in at a fit and ready 174½ pounds. The fight will unify the WBA (super) and IBF titles held by Hopkins and Kovalev's WBO belt, unless there's a no-contest or a draw, in which case they'll leave with the belts they arrived holding. Kind of a bummer.
Hopkins, 49, put in a little time trying to get into Kovalev's head, too, but I'm not a mindreader so I don't know if it worked.
The HBO co-feature is also ready to rock and go, as welterweights Sadam Ali (20-0, 12 KO) and Luis Carlos Abregu (36-1, 29 KO) were fit and ready. Ali was fit and ready at 146 pounds, with Abregu fit and ready at 146½.
