Andy Lee (34-2, 23 KO) looked in bad shape after five rounds with Matt Korobov (24-0, 14 KO). The Russian wasn't setting the world on fire by any means, but he was winning comfortably, outboxing Lee with a sharp southpaw jab and a patient, frustrating gameplan.
"Irish" is not a man to take lightly, however, and he cleaned Korobov's clock in round six, catching him with his signature right hook in what was actually one of the first real exchanges of the fight. Korobov seemed to stun Lee with a shot, but while he tried to follow up the lanky southpaw crushed him with a right hook to the side of the jaw that put Korobov on skates.
Lee pounced on Korobov like a lion on a gazelle, and though Korobov stayed on his feet, referee Kenny Bayless was forced to stop the fight, as he was unable to defend himself. Lee gave a heartwarming thanks to his late former trainer Emanuel Steward, and dedicated this title win to the entire Steward family.
Final result:
Andy Lee defeats Matt Korobov by TKO at 1:10 of Round 6.
