Following a lopsided and impressive win over Devon Alexander tonight on Showtime, Amir Khan may have secured himself a May fight with Floyd Mayweather, something he's been pressing for for a few years now.
Khan (30-3, 19 KO) needed a good showing tonight, and certainly got that. If Manny Pacquiao can't reach a deal to face Mayweather -- and few seem to believe it's a serious possibility -- Khan may indeed be first in line otherwise. And Khan told Showtime's Jim Gray tonight that he thinks he deserves the fight.
"Last year it didn't happen. I really believe i've earned my shot against Floyd Mayweather," siad Khan. "I believe Khan vs Mayweather will be huge. The UK fans will support, and we'll come to take the belt off of him. He's the best fighter in the world, but I want my chance. I'll leave it to Al Haymon and my team."
