Just like their fight in November 2013, Jo Jo Dan slipped past Kevin Bizier by split decision tonight in Quebec City, earning a shot at IBF welterweight titleholder Kell Brook. Scores were 114-113 and 115-112 for Dan, and 114-113 for Bizier. BLH had it 114-113 for Bizier, giving him the fight on the strength of a seventh round knockdown, with the bout even in terms of rounds, 6-6.
It was a closely contested toss-up fight, and the judges' scorecards were fair all around, which of course isn't always the case in boxing. Dan (34-2, 18 KO) was able to outwork Bizier (23-2, 16 KO) after that seventh round knockdown, though, and that wound up giving him the fight. BLH had it even going into the final round, shading to Bizier, but even that was an extremely close round.
Dan landed 231/685 (34%) of his total punches, compared to 211/679 (31%) for Bizier. Dan edged both the power (200-183) and jab (31-28) numbers.
Does the 33-year-old Dan have a shot to beat Kell Brook now that he's earned his shot?
