Tonight at 9:00 pm EST on ESPN2 and streaming live on WatchESPN.com from the Paramount Theater in Huntington, N.Y., undefeated junior welterweight prospect Chris Algieri will battle Emmanuel Taylor in the main event of ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Algieri (18-0, 8 KO) has received some press attention (in part because he has a good team), but he'll have to step his game up tonight to continue his roll against Taylor (17-1, 12 KO). The 29-year-old Algieri will have home field advantage tonight in Huntington, but given that his best opponent to date is the washed-up Mike Arnaoutis, this could be a dangerous move up the ladder.
Taylor, 23, has just one loss on his record, a split decision against Prenice Brewer back in 2011. Since then, he's won three in a row, including a pair of victories over Raymond Serrano (a minor upset) and Victor Cayo.
In the co-feature, welterweight Issouf Kinda (16-1, 6 KO) looks to rebound from his first career loss against Jeremy Bryan (16-3, 7 KO). Kinda, a 26-year-old New Yorker born in Burkina Faso, dropped a hard-luck technical decision to Chris Howard in his last fight. Bryan, 28, is a club fighter who has been stopped in all of his losses, including a TKO-2 defeat against Amir Imam in his last start.
