This morning starting at 4:30 am EST, Bad Left Hook will be here with live, round-by-round coverage and discussion for Top Rank's Ring of Gold event from Macao, China, featuring the return of two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming, and a lightweight world title fight between IBF titleholder Miguel Vazquez and unbeaten challenger Denis Shafikov.
Top Rank will have streaming undercard action starting at 4:30 at TopRank.TV. HBO2 will have tape delay airings of Shiming-Yokthong and Vazquez-Shafikov this afternoon.
Shiming (3-0, 0 KO) will face Thailand's Yokthong Kokietgym (15-3, 11 KO), which is right about the level of opponent he's faced to date. Of the 19-year-old Yokthong's three losses, two came to fighters making their pro debut, and he's been stopped two times. This may be a chance for Shiming to actually beat someone inside the distance. The fight is scheduled for eight rounds.
Vazquez (33-3, 13 KO) is an All-Boring selection among the world's top fighters, but he's effective and awkward against anybody. Shafikov (33-0-1, 18 KO) is a good fighter and has the ability to pull the upset here, though he's definitely the underdog.
On the undercard: Japan's 2012 gold medalist Ryota Murata (2-0, 2 KO) faces Carlos Nascimento (29-3, 23 KO) ... Featherweights Akifumi Shimoda (28-3-2, 12 KO) and Marvin Sonsona (17-1-1, 14 KO) meet in what could be an intriguing fight, and maybe the best on the show ... Rex Tso (11-0, 7 KO) faces Mako Matsuyama (7-7-1, 3 KO) in a 10-round super flyweight bout ... 2012 gold medalist Egor Mekhontsev (1-0, 1 KO) faces Atthaporn Jaritram (4-0, 1 KO) in a six-round light heavyweight contest ... and "Macao Kid" Kuok Kun Ng (2-0, 0 KO) takes on Rocky Alap-Alap (5-10, 0 KO) in a four-round junior middleweight fight. There may also be two other fights, but I didn't see weights listed for those yesterday, so maybe not.
