Alleged Mayweather beating has had no formal charges filed

Floyd Mayweather was recently accused of ordering a beating on two men in Las Vegas, but no complaint has been filed, and the Vegas police are treating it as a rumor for the time being.

TMZ recently ran a story about Floyd Mayweather allegedly ordering a beating on two men he suspected of stealing jewelry from his homes, and then ran a second story detailing their injuries. The two men were reported to have "lawyered up," but no charges had been filed with police.

Today, the Las Vegas police told Mitch Abramson that there still have been no charges filed, thus they're treating the story as a rumor and nothing more. Until someone actually comes forward, police cannot start any potential investigation.

Laura Meltzer, a public information officer with the department, says:

"We've had a variety of reports that have come out stating this event occurred. We have not had a victim come forward and make a report like what is being alleged. So if this event occurred, it's something where the victim has not come forward to the police to make an official complaint."

... "As of right now, the bureau commander over there is not aware of any complaint that has been officially filed. So again, if this is a victim who is choosing not to come forward and make a report- then that's up to the victim to do. We don't have any say in that. There is no criminal complaint on file so there is no reason to go and contact Mr. Mayweather."

So as of now, there's no more to this story than if I accused Mayweather of messing up my hand a little bit, which currently has a pair of small cuts on it. Full disclosure: a cat bit me. He got too excited.

If someone actually files a complaint, then maybe there's something here. If not, then there's nothing.
