Vyacheslav Glazkov and Isaac Chilemba took good wins tonight on NBC Sports Fight Night in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with Glazkov scoring a career-best and biggest win over Tomasz Adamek, and Chilemba outboxing Denis Grachev. Off TV, Kermit Cintron beat Ronald Cruz by decision in a welterweight bout.
Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov UD-12 Tomasz Adamek
Didn't get to see this one just yet, but the scores were 117-110, 117-111, and 116-112, with those who did watch mostly saying Adamek (49-3, 29 KO) fought bravely -- particularly in the final three rounds -- but that he was simply too old and too slow for Glazkov (17-0-1, 11 KO). Adamek's right eye began to close early in the fight and by the end was pretty much shut. When the scores were announced, Adamek didn't seem to have much argument with what went down. This was probably the end of the road for Adamek, 37, as far as his quest to win a heavyweight title.
Isaac Chilemba UD-10 Denis Grachev
Chilemba got the duke on scores of 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91, but it was a solid fight even considering how one-sided it was, with Grachev constantly moving forward and looking to use his power. Chilemba (22-2-2, 9 KO) was just too skilled and too classy for Grachev (13-3-1, 8 KO), who drops his second straight, and third in his last four fights. Grachev has been matched extremely tough since stunning Ismayl Sillakh -- he's gone 1-3 against Lucian Bute, Zsolt Erdei (the win), Edwin Rodriguez, and now Chilemba. Those are all varying degrees of contending fighter, or were when Grachev fought them. He could use a little run where he gets to work on his game and maybe make one serious push toward contention. For Chilemba, this was a solid win where he boxed nicely, stuck to his game plan, and did what he had to do.
