Jhonny Gonzalez vs Jorge Arce title fight being discussed, but unlikely

Jhonny Gonzalez and Jorge Arce could meet for Gonzalez's featherweight title if TV issues are worked around in Mexico.

Promoters in Mexico are discussing a potential WBC featherweight title fight between veterans Jhonny Gonzalez and Jorge Arce, but the fight is unlikely due to those promoters' different TV deals with Azteca 7 and Televisa.

From, quoting Gonzalez's promoter Oswaldo Kuchle:

"I had a conversation with Fernando Beltran and we talked about the possibility of that fight," Kuchle said. "The boxing world takes many turns, it is very versatile, and we can not say no to anything. Interestingly, I told you that once I spoke with Fernando Beltran about having the Arce fight on Televisa, and they replied with a proposal for Jhonny with TV Azteca and we said no. It would be very good fight, I think Arce deserves it."

Gonzalez (55-8, 47 KO) has not fought since stunning Abner Mares in the first round last August, as a rematch fell through and Gonzalez has not had anything else come his way. A fight with Arce (63-7-2, 48 KO) is interesting mostly because it would still be a pretty big fight in Mexico, and the 34-year-old Arce has been counted out before only to surprise, most recently against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr in 2011, when Arce stunned the then-unbeaten Puerto Rican to lift the WBO super bantamweight title.

Arce has won world titles at 108, 115, 118, and 122, and held an interim title at 112 long enough that it might as well count -- that interim title he held at flyweight was a lot more legit than his belts at 115 and 118, and sadly I don't think they can throw Angky Angkotta in with a vacant featherweight belt to get Arce a title at 126.

Are you at all interested in this one, even considering the TV deals make it unlikely?
